Shared scooters will leave the streets of Tomar

The company responsible for the scooter service in Tomar understood, after a year and a half of service, that the conditions to continue were not met and rescinded the Cooperation Agreement with the municipality. The matter was under analysis at the last chamber meeting, on Monday, October 31. PSD councilor Lurdes Ferromau Fernandes made some remarks about the way in which this project was implemented. “This system of shared scooters without a dock already had associated risks, and many cases of vandalism and misuse were recorded. At the time of its implementation, some difficulties and risks had already been identified and what was foreseen in the cooperation agreement that was the opportunity to acquire an experience, we can say that this was a bad experience”, she said.

In response, the vice president of the municipality, Hugo Cristóvão, refuted these statements and said that many will miss this means of transport. “I don't think it was a bad experience. From the outset, the possibility for citizens to experience different, low-cost and environmentally friendly means of transportation. There were occasional episodes of lesser civic care on the part of some users, which happens everywhere, but we cannot, due to the behavior of some, invalidate an entire project. I know that there will be a lot of people who will miss it, such as the Polytechnic students who were frequent users of this use”, he said.
